EDUCATION FOR THE INDIVIDUAL: IT'S THAT SIMPLE. AND THAT COMPLEX.

For students with learning differences struggling in the traditional school system, an individualized approach can be life-changing and transformative. Winston Preparatory School understands that students with dyslexia, executive functioning difficulties (ADHD), and nonverbal learning disorder (NVLD) thrive when education is based on essential skill building and tailored to meet their needs.

As a nationally recognized school network, Winston Prep’s programming serves students ages 8 to 21+.

Here’s a quick look at their varied and flexible offerings:

  • Brick-and-mortar campuses, located throughout New York, Connecticut, New Jersey, and California, serve students in grades 3 through 12.
  • Winston Online offers fully customizable online programming for students in grades 3 through 12, accessible anywhere.
  • Winston Transitions, located in New York and San Francisco, supports students ages 17–21+ who need a longer runway to prepare for college, work, and independence in adulthood. Each campus offers flexible programming.

Education for the Individual is at the heart of the Winston Prep model. Winston Prep’s approach to social-emotional learning, individualization, and essential skill development leads to clear improvements in academic achievement and social-emotional capacities. While this approach may feel new, Winston Prep’s methods are rooted in years of evidence-based research and proven practice.

No matter the program or campus location, Winston Prep develops a detailed, holistic understanding of how each student learns, creating the right learning environment where each student can reach their full potential. Having a faculty of expert learning specialists who deeply understand each student is an integral component of the educational model.

Before a student spends their first day at Winston Prep, their faculty has spent weeks designing a skill-based, academic program tailored to the student’s specific needs, and through their Continuous Feedback System, teachers assess each student’s progress and continually adjust their teaching approach to ensure success.

A cornerstone of Winston Prep’s research-based teaching model is the innovative Focus Program, which pairs students with highly skilled teachers for daily, one-to-one sessions. Focus instructors are responsible for developing an in-depth understanding of each of their students’ learning profiles, creating goals that target remediation in various areas of need, and applying appropriate strategies to address these goals.

“I realized Winston Prep was the right place for me on my day when I went to my focus session with my new teacher. I’d never had that one-on-one experience, and when I finally did and realized how supportive the whole community is, I started to finally feel calm in a school environment,” shared Esther, Class of 2025 at Winston Prep New Jersey.

The school network also places emphasis on ensuring that all students develop the skills necessary for post-secondary success and independence upon graduation. These essential skills include self-advocacy, social responsibility, self-reflection, resilience, self-regulation, problem solving, management and organization, and social and communication skills.

As Executive Director Scott Bezsylko explains, “We approach these skills the same way we approach other [academic] skills—by isolating them and providing practice.”

The Results?

Winston Prep’s model and programming result in extraordinary transformations for students and families.

  • Winston Prep’s high school graduation rate is 99.7% compared to the national average of 70.8% for students with learning disabilities.
  • Approximately 80% of Winston Prep graduates enroll in college compared to just 33% nationwide for students with learning disabilities.
