Close your eyes and think back to when you were a child. What adult made a life-altering impact on your childhood or adolescence? Many teens and children in our family foster care program would name their foster parents. Graham Windham’s network of foster parents are an inspiring group of “ordinary” people who do the extraordinary. Foster parents provide stable, loving homes in which children and teens can heal, hold young children through tantrums, coach teens who are learning to be independent, provide compassion to parents whose children are in foster care, and work side by side with our staff team through every adversity and every celebration.

Whether you are an experienced parent or growing your family for the first time, Graham has a nurturing team of dedicated professionals who are committed to your success as a foster parent. We believe in offering comprehensive help that wraps around families and children—at Graham, children have full access to our wide range of programs designed to help children and families thrive.

Graham has a long history of making a difference in the lives of children and families. Graham was founded in 1806 as The Orphan Asylum Society by Isabella Graham and a group of progressive women including Elizabeth Schuyler Hamilton, wife of Alexander Hamilton, one of the nation’s founding fathers, to care for and educate children who lost their parents regardless of their financial resources. It evolved into The Graham Home for Children and merged in 1977 with Windham Child Care, which had been established to enable widowed parents to work while their children were safely educated. For over 200 years Graham Windham has been a leading innovator in providing support for children and families in New York City!
